Detectives Ivan Lucic and Nell Buchanan arrive in Nulla to investigate the beheading of local miner Jonas McGee. They find themselves up against combative local police, hostile locals and a missing head.
Ivan and Nell finally catch up with Stanley. Nell gets a disturbing call from Phelan and Ivan is pulled into the dark underbelly of the town.
Nell gets into a tight spot and is leveraged by Phelan. Ivan has a strange encounter with The Third Row and he and Nell make an explosive discovery at the Dead Tree.
